About the Program
The Pedagogical Leadership Project (PLP) was made possible thanks to funding from the Ministry of Education within the Child Care and Early Years Workforce Funding.
The goal of the PLP is to strengthen the Early Learning workforce by helping early learning professionals connect with the meaning and value in their work and ultimately to improve recruitment and retention.
Funding was made available to each Licensed Child Care Agency to support the cost of a pedagogical leader. Twelve out of the eighteen agencies within our community participated in this project.
Through various and unique agency models, pedagogical leaders provided direct and hands-on mentoring, coaching and support for early learning professionals. Based on identified needs and goals, pedagogical leaders worked towards strengthening pedagogical practices, transforming culture, and improving employee well-being.
Pedagogical leaders were supported through both monthly gatherings and one-on-one/team connections with their Program Quality Coordinator from Children Services Section at the City of Greater Sudbury.
The Project was developed to:
- Understand the workforce and develop a responsive approach to leadership, including mentoring and coaching.
- Build collaborative relationships between Program Quality Coordinators and Pedagogical Leaders as well as between those Pedagogical Leaders and their team members (through connections, critical reflection, experimentation, and identifying trends, interests, and curiosities).
- Lead from a place of vision and values.
- Develop and create processes and policies that are reflective of transformational change and a culture of learning.
- Create and support opportunities to strengthen approaches and practices.
- Build capacity and move towards a culture of collaboration, mentorship, and reflective practice.
- Encourage shared participation by all partners in program evaluation and continuous quality improvement.
